intro post to prove I know how to use the MB

*waves*

I'm earthy, and I like to stalk the Amassment LJ community.

*cough*

Um. My home on the web is Storygirl.org which is ugly right now, so go look at my silly Zuko site instead.

I am an extremely overworked grad student (library science) who will be graduating this spring and fears having to Be An Adult. I am also a novelist and web designer who enjoys knitting and singing loudly, often at the same time. I miss my Japanese language classes like whoa and have at last overcome my fear of broccoli.

Nice to meet you. ^_^

Hi! Welcome! I remember when you joined amassment, I hope I can get to know you better. :) My boyfriend is taking some classes in Library science now (since the illustration degree isn't doing much for him at the moment), I find that interesting. May I ask- what do you have planned for yourself in the future?

Also, another member who enjoys writing hehe. \(^^)/ Have you gotten any novels published?

In the immediate future, I am going to drink some soda and listen to some extremely ridiculous J-pop. ^_~

As for long term stuff, I'd like to work in youth services at a public library (preferably with teens because I am crazy). And do some web design on the side.

Actually, that's my cover; I really want to get paid enough to write so that I never have to have a Real Job. Right now that's kind of hard since I am spending more time hiding under my bed than I am sending out query letters on my first YA novel (satirical fantasy). But when I get my act together, look out, world!

How 'bout you? And/or anyone else happening upon this thread?

Hey earthy!

My teachers encouraged grad school for me, but I'm not quite sure yet, especially since I'm kinda ready to be out of school, period. XD How did you like it? It's funny how so many of us are graduating this year!

I think I'm really going to miss my Japanese language class as well. I only started in college, so I feel like I'm never going to get as far as I want to with the language! :[

You know, I didn't go to grad school right away. I definitely needed some time away from school! Also, when I finished undergrad, I had no idea what I wanted to do, so I worked a few crummy jobs for a year before I moved back to the midwest and ultimately decided on grad school.

As many people will probably tell you, library science is sort of a joke as a degree...but there are positive elements, too, like networking with awesome people and getting to go to some neat conferences and workshops. However, financial aid for grad students is practically nonexistent, so unless you're rich, it's good to be really certain of what you want to do before you shell out the money for more school!

I'd recommend it if there's something you really want to study more and/or a degree you really need to get the job you want. But there are plenty of ways around a grad degree for many professions, so I guess it depends on what you're interested in.

Maybe it's best to take a break for awhile and then see if you're really missing school before going back. I have fantasies of getting another grad degree in East Asian Studies/Japanese language, but I don't think that's going to happen anytime soon....^^;;

Thanks for the thorough response! It's always nice to hear about things like this from people who aren't your teachers/counselors/whatever.

Right, I figured that if grad school was really something I wanted to do, it'd probably be something I would come back to later. (Money is definitely an issue, and I think a little real world experience might be good for me, just as a person.) There are definitely a lot of people in the world who've made it without even any educational background outside of HS. I think your education is really up to you as a person, though. College taught me a lot about art/design I'm pretty sure I couldn't figure out on my own, and I'm sure grad school would do the same! But if you're wanting to go back for more, it seems like you find it pretty beneficial. East Asian Studies/Japanese would be awesome to go back for, I don't blame you! XD

Welcome to the message board! You don't have to be an adult if you don't want to, just stay cool forever, that's my choice too. :D

Ah my super belated reply.

I write too so I am always trying to talk to other writers around here. :) I keep tottering with the idea of novels or comics or both. I personally have a novel I have been working on for almost almost 10 years (yikes!).

I 'd love to read your YA novel, though. I love satire and fantasy, my favorite genres, so I bet it'd be right up my alley. ;D Good luck!!
